General Hospital reached a major milestone on June 1, taping of its 16000th episode. To celebrate the occasion, the cast and crew gathered on set for a cake and a tribute to the daytime drama, which premiered on April 1, 1963.
The show’s official social media sites marked the special day by sharing a video accompanied by the message, “There’s nothing like celebrating a milestone with family, friends, and cake to cure a case of the Mondays. 63 years and 16,000 episodes later, we’re still going strong thanks to all of you! Thank you so much for watching.”
The video also offered several clues about upcoming developments both on and offscreen. Among those featured in the cast was Steve Burton, who announced in February that he would be taking a brief break from playing Jason Morgan. During a recent episode of his podcast, That’s Awesome, which he co-hosts with Bradford Anderson (Damian Spinelli), Burton confirmed that his return is just around the corner. “Yes, I am coming back to the show. I start in June, so I’ll be back for sure,” he shared.
Jason was last seen on March 25, when he was taken into WSB custody. At the time, Burton explained on the podcast that he wanted to spend more time with his children — Jack, Makena and Brooklyn — as well as his wife, Michelle Lundstrom, and their newly blended family. “I want to take a break,” he said. “I want to live life a little bit and go enjoy.”

Also in attendance was Finola Hughes, who last appeared as Anna Devane in February. Sporting a new, shorter hairstyle, Hughes posed for a group photo between Burton and Jane Elliot (Tracy Quartermaine). In the storyline, Anna has been in France receiving treatment at a mental health facility after being held captive and drugged by Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) and Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota).
Another notable appearance came from a newcomer. TV Insider can confirm that Dean Geyer has joined the soap in the contract role of Tristan Roberts. He began taping June 1, the same day the show filmed its landmark 16000th episode.
If the name sounds familiar, that’s by design. Tristan Roberts is named for the late Tristan Rogers, who played Aussie spy Robert Scorpio on and off from 1980 to 2025, and passed away on August 15, 2025. Geyer, who was born in South Africa and immigrated to Australia at age 15, is known for his work on 9-1-1, Glee and Zoey 102.
The 16000th episode is scheduled to air on July 13.
