California rockers Kyng are back with the song “Haunting Visions,” their first new electric music in seven years. The new tune comes as the band continues work on its upcoming fourth studio album.

“Haunting Visions” features a mix of stoner metal and heavy rock. In describing the song, Kyng said in a collective statement, “‘Haunting Visions’ is a story about a Vietnam veteran whose entire humanity was, for lack of a better word, transformed into an unrecognizable being. We jokingly claim that it’s ‘based on true events (sort of)’ because, although the mental transformation in fact happened, it’s not a visual, literal transformation as portrayed in the video.”

The band added, “Musically, it represents where KYNG came from and where we’re going. The idea is to eliminate stigmas and preconceptions by tapping into influences that might seem unlikely to the average listener.”

The song comes with a dramatic music video featuring action figures, directed by by K. Hunter Lamar and Nick Shindzielos. It tells the tale of Private Lawrence “The Wolf” Stewart Tolbot III, who is “wrestling with the idea of life as a marine ordered to take lives in war-torn territory,” according to a press release.

Kyng last released a proper studio LP in 2016 with Breathe in the Water, although they bridged the gap with a 2021 acoustic album titled Beyond the Dead Woods.

On top of the new music, Kyng will be back on the road this fall. The band will appear at Metal Injection Festival on September 17th in Anaheim, California, and Louder Than Life on September 21st in Louisville, Kentucky.

Kyng feature frontman Eddie Veliz, drummer Pepe Clarke, and new bassist Nick Shinz. Watch the video for “Haunting Visions” below.
