Barack Obama, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Leslie Jordan are among the winners for the 2022 Audie Awards, which recognize work in audiobooks and spoken-word entertainment.
The Audio Publishers Association (APA) announced the winners on Friday (March 4) in a virtual ceremony hosted by Kal Penn.

The night’s top honor went to Project Hail Mary written by Andy Weir, narrated by Ray Porter, and published by Audible Studios, winning audiobook of the year. The audiobook of the year category was judged by New York Times bestselling author Kristen Arnett, author and journalist Gayle Forman and Seija Rankin (Senior Books Editor at Entertainment Weekly).
“The audio of Project Hail Mary did exactly what I want an audiobook to do, which is to use the medium to expand the story,” said Forman. “If this Sci-Fi book could make a fan out of me, a lover of contemporary realistic fiction, it could definitely win over any first-time audio listeners.”
Other winners included Miranda, who won for best male narrator for the production of Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World, and Jordan, who won in the best humor category for his memoir How Y’all Doing?
Obama won in the best narration by the author category for the narration of his memoir A Promised Land, published by Penguin Random House Audio.
Ryan La Sala’s Be Dazzled, narrated by Pete Cross, and published by Dreamscape Media won the young adult Audie Award. The young adult category was judged by author, activist and co-host of the hit podcast Queerified with Gigi Gorgeous and Mimi Gigi Gorgeous, writer and NPR book reviewer Caitlyn Paxson and Anthony Allen Ramos (executive producer of the GLAAD Media Awards and official entertainment correspondent).
