Karl Urban reacted to recasting speculation linking him to Indiana Jones. He responded to a social media comment suggesting him as the optimal successor to Harrison Ford in the role. Ford last played the character in his final appearance in 2023’s The Dial of Destiny.
Karl Urban addresses prospects of replacing Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones
Urban appreciated being considered Harrison Ford’s potential successor to the role of Indiana Jones. However, he acknowledged that the latter can never be replaced.
On X (formerly Twitter), stand-up comedian and actor Steve Byrne shared his opinion that The Boys alum is “the only person” who could take over Ford’s role as the famous treasure hunter and archaeologist. He wrote, “There’s truly only one man that could replace Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones…@KarlUrban HE WOULD CRUSH IT.”
Urban responded, “While I appreciate the vote of confidence-Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones – he is irreplaceable !”
Notably, Urban is a massive fan of the action-adventure franchise. In an appearance on Popcorn Podcast with Leigh and Tim, the 53-year-old revealed that Raiders of the Lost Ark was an influential film during his formative years.
He particularly praised how Ford’s performance showed the character’s humanity, highlighting how he wasn’t “bulletproof” and could shift from being someone in control of the situation to one afraid for his life.
Moreover, he reportedly listed the movie as one of his five favorites on Rotten Tomatoes. Furthermore, he named his second son after Indiana Jones.
Previously, several months ago, former Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy addressed the franchise’s future following Ford’s departure from the role. Interacting with Deadline, she shared that while she doesn’t “think Indy will ever be done,” the creatives weren’t interested in “exploring” opportunities at the moment. Kennedy added, “But these are timeless movies, and Indy will never be done.”
She continued, “You never know. But we are all still here, Steven and Frank and I, and Harrison and George. So we get to say whether there’s going to be any more, or not.”
