It never fails to surprise me just how much of an impact jewellery can have on your outfits and, indeed, your sense of style. Where jeans and T-shirts and blazers and jumpers might form the staples upon which your ensembles are built, it’s pieces such as shoes and bags and hats and a plethora of other accessories that add personality to your wares. None more so than jewellery.
Many of us choose our jewellery carefully and with the utmost consideration, especially when items of the fine variety come into play. Because of this, I think it’s always beneficial to keep abreast of the goings-on in the bijoux world. Won’t you join me as I break down the top jewellery trends of 2023?
As with anything else that I choose to share with you by way of my columns and features, I never recommend buying something just because it’s “trending.” Thankfully, jewellery trends tend to stick around longer than those of other fashion items—that’s if they ever dip out of favour at all—so the most important thing you can do is to invest in jewellery you truly love wearing. That way, it won’t matter whether it’s “on-trend.” Still, knowing that you take fashion just as seriously as I do, I understand the urge to know what feels fresh at any given moment. So I decided to research the jewellery trends set to reverberate throughout 2023. My source? The runway. Scroll on to see the eight jewellery trends I and other experts are most excited about for the coming year.
1. Jumbo Pearls

Style Notes: Pearls have been reigning on the jewellery scene for quite some time, with designers including Rejina Pyo and Givenchy proving the trend isn’t out of steam just yet with their oversized runway iterations.

COS
Freshwater Pearl Earrings
Thomas Sabo
Yellow-Gold Plated Necklace With Freshwater Pearls and Zirconia
Be careful not to spray perfume directly onto real pearls, as it can damage the delicate surface.
2. Cocktail Rings
(Image credit: Courtesy of Dries Van Noten; Masha Popova; Laruicci; Kimhekim via ImaxTree)
Style Notes: Between opera gloves and ornate hair embellishments, it would seem that formal accessories are a big hitter as spring/summer trends go. Round off the look with the fanciest jewellery of them all, cocktail rings with unmissable stones.

3. Shoulder-Skimming Earrings
(Image credit: Courtesy of Proenza Schouler; Chanel; Nensi Dojaka; Louis Vuitton via ImaxTree)
Style Notes: Long, drop-like earrings that reached the shoulder were easily the most prevalent jewellery trend on the runway this season, with pearls and jewels being the favourite accoutrement between Chanel and Nensi Dojaka.

14ct Gold-Plated Freshwater Pearl and Crystal Long Drop Earrings
In a word: Breathtaking.
4. Chunky Cuffs
(Image credit: Courtesy of Givenchy; Rokh; Saint Laurent via ImaxTree)
Style Notes: Bangles aren’t the most practical jewellery trend out there—I can’t be the only one who can’t stand the insistent clacking noise they make when you wear them whilst typing—but they are one of the most impactful. Givenchy sent models down the runway wearing a cuff on each wrist to drive home this point.

Kenneth Jay Lane
22ct Gold-Plated Cabochon Pearl Cuff Bracelet
This addition of the large centre stone sets this cuff apart from its plainer counterparts.
The ultimate party bangle.
5. Floral Moments
(Image credit: Courtesy of Magda Butrym; Carolina Herrera; ACNE Studios; Alessandra Rich via Imaxtree)
Style Notes: This year, florals have jumped off the fabric and have taken up residency in the form of 3D blooms. Adorning everything from dresses to handbags, it makes sense that the trend has also been translated in jewellery form, too. Opt for a corsage worn around the neck, as seen at Madga Butrym, or opt for a statement earring akin to Carolina Herrera.

Anthropologie
Rosette Wrap Necklace
This also comes in cream and pink.
6. Collar Necklaces

Style Notes: Chunky chain necklaces will never go out of style; this is as good a fashion prediction as any I can think of. At the very least, they’re not going anywhere for 2023, as many designers played with collar-length chains in their collections.

7. Spotlight on Silver
(Image credit: Courtesy of AZ Factory via ImaxTree; Loewe; Ports 1961; Missoni via ImaxTree)
Style Notes: Perhaps one of the biggest shifts in the jewellery world in the past few months has been the surge in the popularity of silver. Although gold tones still continue to dominate the spring/summer 2023 edits, there was a notable rise in the volumes of silver jewellery coming through, which was evident everywhere from Loewe to Missoni.

8. Beautiful Brooches
(Image credit: Courtesy of Dries Van Noten; Roberto Cavalli via ImaxTree; Masha Popova via ImaxTree; Tory Burch)
Style Notes: The thing I love most about working in fashion is how it is always quick to embrace bygone trends, updating pieces from eras gone by and making them feel anew. This season, the often-overlooked brooch cropped up in so many collections, giving it the credence it needs to shine as a fun jewellery option once more. Between colourful gemstones an architectural shapes, brooch iterations are truly endless. Me? I’m all about the more-is-more approach.
