The global hit apocalyptic K-drama Sweet Home recently concluded. Season 3, the final season of the series, premiered on Netflix on Friday, July 19, 2024. The drama is an adaptation of the popular webtoon of the same name by Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-Chan. Thus, fans have been curious to learn whether the ending of the Netflix series is similar or different from the ending of the original webtoon.
The Sweet Home K-drama follows the main plotline of the webtoon, revolving around the apocalypse, monsters, and the protagonist Hyun-Su. However, the series gives the audience a different ending from that of the original webtoon. It makes a significant change in Hyun-Su’s storyline. At the end of the webtoon, the character Ji-Su plays a significant part. However, the show depicted the character, played by Park Gyu-Young, getting killed in episode 3 of Season 2. The characters Eun-Hyeok (Lee Do-Hyun) and Eun-Yoo (Go Min-Si) also get a different ending.
Sweet Home Season 3 ending is different than the webtoon ending
At the end of the original webtoon, Ji-Soo attempts to make Hyun-Su return to his human form but is unable to. When everyone is sent off from the Green Home building, Eun-Hyuk turns into a monster as he believes he can save Hyun-Su. However, he transforms into a strange mass and sucks Hyun-Su inside it.
Then, at the end of the Sweet Home webtoon, two mysterious cocoons suddenly appear. One of them hatches, and Hyun-Su comes out of it. After that, he finds Ji-Soo’s phone and completely breaks down. In the webtoon’s epilogue, the readers can see a post-apocalyptic world. It is extremely cold and entirely snow-covered. Ji-Soo, along with the other survivors, has been living in a military camp. Suddenly, they witness Hyun-Su walking barefoot towards the gate of the camp. All of them rush to meet him. It ends with Hyun-Su finding a brand-new purpose, family, and life.
In the meantime, the Sweet Home K-drama ending shows Hyun-Su and Eun-Hyeok, a neohuman, fighting together to end the war between monsters and humans. When the human inside Sang-Won defeats the monster inside him, the war finally ends. Sergeant Kim Young-Hoo is now the leader of the survivors after Sergeant Tak In-Hwan turns into a monster who helps the survivors escape.
Meanwhile, the Sweet Home season 3 ending sees Eun-Yoo becoming a monster. Both Eun-Hyeok and Hyun-Su fail to find her. Nevertheless, Eun-Hyeok knows that she will be reborn as his kind, i.e. the neohumans. Soon, Eun-Hyeok parted ways with Hyun-Su.
At the very end of Sweet Home season 3, Hyun-Su brings more survivors safely to the military camp, where the other survivors are living under Kim Young-Hoo’s supervision. When the time for them to move comes, Hyun-Su suggests that they should walk all together. On their way to Hyun-Su, the survivors and soldiers come across several neohumans standing on the street. They accept them as a part of the new world, despite some reservations. The final episode then displays Hyun-Su reuniting with Eun-Hyeok on a rooftop.
There, the two witness Eun-Yoo walking over the edge with earphones on. They smile. It looks like Eun-Yoo has turned into a neohuman. The Sweet Home K-drama ends with Hyun-Su addressing the new era of their “Sweet Home.”
Despite its difference from the Sweet Home webtoon ending, the K-drama has given fans a highly satisfying and cathartic ending to the monster saga.
The series’ third season stars Song Kang, Go Min-Si, Lee Jin-Wook, Lee Do-Hyun, Lee Si-Young, Yu Oh-Seong, Oh Jung-Se and many more. Viewers can watch the final season of the K-drama online on the global streaming platform Netflix.
