My denim collection is, admittedly, vast. Through the years, I’ve got my hands on almost every style imaginable, from wide-leg jeans and retro-inspired flares to skinny jeans and trendy balloon-style denim. While I think every style has its place, my current go-to style is straight-leg jeans. I appreciate their versatility, timelessness, and, for one pair in particular, their unrivaled comfort. Enter the Levi’s Ribcage Straight Ankle Jeans ($42, originally $80), which I recently added to my Amazon shopping cart in the bestselling style Summer Slide. Having heard my coworkers rave about them before, I felt it was due time to test them to find out what the hype was all about. Ahead, I explain what makes them so special.

What I Love About the Levi’s Ribcage Straight Ankle Jeans

Not to sound like a broken record, but what I love most about the Levi’s Ribcage Straight Ankle Jeans is their comfort. They’re stretchy, high-waisted, and slightly cropped, landing at the ankle. They’re just rigid enough to have structure but soft enough that I look forward to slipping into them at the start of the day. They’ve become the It girl of my denim collection because they go with everything and are reliably comfortable. For these reasons, I’ve reached for them repeatedly, and I have no signs of slowing any time soon.

I’m equally obsessed with the color I chose, which the brand describes as “light indigo.” They’re the quintessential light-blue jeans, and I love how they have the slightest bit of vintage texture that gives them a lived-in feel. I love wearing them with my high-top Converse sneakers, which complement the cropped denim and make for a super-comfortable outfit that’s a step up from my usual athleisure. I also love the way they hug my body without feeling constricting in the least.

What’s Worth Noting About the Levi’s Ribcage Straight Ankle Jeans

Two years back, I reviewed Emma Chamberlain’s favorite pair of Levi’s — the Baggy Dad Jeans — and recalled that I ordered my usual size 28 and found they ran big. With that in mind, I opted for a size 27 this time. The fit was comfortable, not too big, though they were still a tad roomy around the waist. Based on this, I suggest sizing down by at least one full size for a better fit. Shoppers agree; multiple note that they recommend going down one or even two sizes. I suggest ordering two different sizes to compare, then keep the one that fits best and return the other. Alternatively, if you’re good with measurements, you can look to the handy size guide provided by the brand on its Amazon store page. I’ve included it below, too.
