Here’s Everything Our Editors Wore to London Fashion Week

We’ve missed you, London Fashion Week, but what a welcome return it has been. While the rest of the country focuses on what to wear this spring, in the capital all sights were on autumn/winter 2024, and among the waterproof coats and sandals (necessary for weather that could not make it’s mind up,) inside the runways were alive with bursts of colour, texture, and vibrancy that felt like a celebration of the turn of the season.

London has always had the reputation of being the rebel child of fashion month. While Paris has its couture roots, Milan is an artistic mix of high-fashion prints and colour, and New York is lofty and cool, London has always championed anarchic edge, and the city’s playful attitude came into full effect this season, making the most of the post-pandemic feeling of dressing up and heading out.

So what did Who What Wear’s editors wear to celebrate this momentous return to statement dressing? In typical fashion, we all brought our own personality to the mix, wearing everything from longline coats to statement skirts (with plenty of exciting accessories thrown in for good measure). Whether heading into east London postcodes for up-and-coming designers, pounding the pavements of west London for über luxury, or dodging the rain in style (thank you for chauffeuring us, Volvo!), we stayed true to our favourite outfits. So, if you fancy a little new-season inspo or simply just a nosy into our wardrobes (and I don’t blame you), keep scrolling to see what we wore to London Fashion Week September 2024. See you in September for round two…

!. Puffer Coat + Maxi Skirt + Knee-High Boots

Style Notes: You can always rely on editor-in-chief Hannah Almassi to put together a look that as is fashionable as it is functional, and you’re unlikely to spot her in thin layers and skyscraper heels for show-hopping during fashion week. Instead, Hannah’s luxury approach to cold-weather dressing ticks off two trends at once (that’s mid-heel boots and pencil skirts), and makes a hero out of the humble puffer jacket. Well, maybe slightly less humble when it;s a Rejina Pyo puffer jacket no less.

2. Cropped Blazer + Mini Skirt + Slingbacks

Style Notes: Whenever I have an important occasion that requires clothes with a little extra “wow” factor, the first place I head to is By Rotation. Renting gives you the opportunity to wear the clothes of your dreams without having to spend an arm and a leg, and the moment I spotted this Balmain jacket, I knew it needed a moment during fashion week. Still, it is a chilly February so opaque tights are necessary (more on those later), but the piece that brought the whole look together was a fashion-forward puffball skirt from ASOS that looked far more expensive than its price tag.

3. Blazer + Midi Skirt + Wool Bandana

london fashion week street style

Style Notes: Queen of quiet luxury deputy editor Maxine Eggenberger is a master of classic silhouettes and a tonal colour palette that always looks expensive—take her LFW day one look for example. A black blazer always looks good, but its even better with the addition of a waist-cinching belt. Neutral accessories are timeless, but on a monochrome outfit they really stand out. And, before you reach for a matte leather shoe, try a patent one for little extra polish.

4. Bomber Jacket + Statement Jeans + Ankle Boots

Style Notes: With Cole Buxton and Chet Lo in the mix, senior fashion and beauty branded content editor Rebecca Rhys Evans’s look is a homage to the best of upcoming British talent. We’ll forgive the inclusion of Aussie based Dion Lee when those statement trousers are quite so good, as the rest of this fit is so unmistakably London that it could have easily made it onto the runway. Once again, mid-heel shoes are employed for comfort as well as style, but the accessories are the icing on the cake. Y2K styling, eat your heart out.

5. Maxi Coat + White Tights + Court Shoes

Shop the Look:

Style Notes: If ever there was an outfit not designed for drinking coffee in, it’s got to be head-to-toe white. Should you be wondering what to wear at a moment’s notice, clever colour blocking is always the simple but effective way to make it look like you spent a lot of time getting ready (when really, it only takes 5 minutes to assemble). The bold tights we were obsessed with at the end of 2023 come into their own when paired with an outfit like this, so now is the perfect time to invest in hosiery that will see you through to 2025 too.

6. Maxi Coat + Maxi Dress + Pointed Boots

london fashion week street style

Style Notes: In the words of US colleague Allyson Payer, “As I’m sure you’re aware, 2023 was all about red. That’s still very much the case, but now there’s another colour trend threatening to steal some of its thunder, and it looks even more expensive than red. That colour is chocolate brown. The hue that, in the past, might’ve been considered “ugly” or “boring” is now one of the most sought-after colours of the season”, and should you need convincing, Maxine’s day two look says it all. When black is too severe and grey is a little samey, layering chocolate brown is the new fashion insider’s uniform of choice.

7. Printed Dress + Oversized Blazer + Belt

london fashion week street style

Style Notes: By the end of a jam packed day, it was time to stop for dinner, and Hannah’s maxi dress and belted blazer combo is the kind of chameleon outfit that effortlessly transitions from day to night. The pop of red was a major London fashion week street style trend, and one we’re willing to bet will continue into summer too, and this dress would look just as good with a basket bag and sandals in a few months time as it does with a brushed wool jacket now. Just think of the cost per wear…

7. Corset Blazer + Satin Skirt + Fisherman Sandals

london fashion week street style

Style Notes: And now another black blazer and triangle scarf combo, but this time with the addition of a slinky satin skirt. As soon as the sun shines (even slightly) my instinct is to ditch the coat and throw on a pair of sandals, and although it wasn’t quite as balmy as I would have hoped, this week was the first time I wore my fisherman sandals without socks (a small victory!), and the lift of red brightened up what was otherwise a dreary, grey day. In short, this outfit was all about balancing smarter, dressier pieces with casual accessories for the high/low mix that we as editors rely on all too often.

8. Cashmere Knit + Maxi Skirt + Patent Heels

london fashion week street style

Style Notes: You simply cannot go wrong with cashmere, and this cream wrap knit is just the kind of sumptuous piece that deserves to be sitting front row. Add a column skirt and a simple patent heel and you’ve got yourself a premium pairing that’s ready for work, weekend, and even date night, and when the weather gets warmer wear your knit around your shoulders with a simple white tank top. It’s the kind of off-duty celeb look that’s easy to replicate with impressive results.
