What does Dwayne Johnson say about his injury from the set of The Smashing Machine?
“As you guys know, I’m filming a movie called The Smashing Machine,” Johnson says in the video. “Anytime your film is called The Smashing Machine — well, you’re kind of going to get smashed up. Look at that sucker right there. It looks like I have a cantaloupe in the bottom of my elbow. I got banged up pretty good today in our scenes. There might be some soft tissue damage in there. That’s a lot of fluid, we’ll see. I’ve got to get it out of there, first, before I get any kind of MRI.
“The pain feels pretty good. All good, it is what it is until it isn’t. I remember my old man used to say, god rest his soul, ‘The Soulman’ — he was an old-school pro wrestler, old-school bodybuilder — he always used to say, ‘A day without pain is like a day without sunshine, boy.’”
Johnson goes on to list some of the other injuries he’s had over the years before he asks for any “advanced advice on some great anti-inflammatories.” He then pulls out a bottle of his tequila, Teremana, which he says “might be his favorite.”
The Smashing Machine is directed by Benny Safdie. Along with Johnson, it stars Emily Blunt as Dawn Staples, Lyndsey Gavin as Elizabeth Coleman, Oleksandr Usyk as Igor Vovchanchyn, Ryan Bader as Mark Coleman, and Zoe Kosovic as McKenzie Coleman.
The Smashing Machine is expected to be released in United States theaters in December 2024.
