We wanted answers, and the creative team behind Sunny has finally found a way to give them to us. And they’re doing it in the most acid-tripping way possible.
Secrets and mysteries have been the series’ cornerstone since its first episode.
Luckily, Sunny is one of those shows where the journey is more fun than the destination.
However, the show wants to make sure the arrival is just as reality-bending as the trek has been.
For the entirety of Sunny Season 1, there has been question after question, with more introduced in every episode.
Is Masa and Zen Alive? What was Hime’s relationship with Masa? What do the yakuza want with Suzie? What is Sunny’s purpose, and why is she, unlike other Home Bots?
From the beginning, it’s been clear that Sunny doesn’t function like other robots.
She’s petty and sarcastic but eagerly optimistic. She understands human emotion in a way that makes her feel as real as any human character.
If you had seen the previous episode, you know it ended with giant question marks flying in the air about what the hell was going on.
The acid trip continues on this Apple TV+ series with a journey through Sunny’s mind and memories. Check out this exclusive clip from Sunny Season 1 Episode 9 below!
If for no other reason, I will watch this episode solely to find out how exactly loneliness is like hunger. I need more explanation for that theory.
There isn’t much to be gleaned from this clip other than the fact that Sunny (Joanna Sotomura) is having a “this is your life” moment.
At the very least, it’s clear that whatever is happening is tied to Sunny and Masa’s overwhelming loneliness.
We see he’s the cleaned-up suit-wearing Masa, but whether this is before or after he meets Suzie is unclear.
While Rashida Jones is missing from the clip, we do not doubt she will appear in the episode.
Her journey to discover the truth of her husband’s past has led her into some hazardous situations, but she has nothing left to lose.
Masa is dead. Zen is dead. Her mother-in-law is in jail. And from what we’ve learned about her past, nothing awaits her back home.
With only two episodes left, Sunny Season 1 is gearing up for a mind-bending finale.
I’m down for whatever the series has in store as long as we finally get some damn answers!
And in case anyone has forgotten, there was that opening scene with the violent robot from episode 1. What the hell was all of that? Does this clip take place before or after that bloody beginning?
Do you think Masa is still alive?
What do you think Masa meant when he said loneliness is like hunger?
