Apple TV+ produces some of the best television available, and it is preparing to add what appears to be another intriguing crime drama to its impressive roster.
Smoke, set to premiere on the app on June 27th, is inspired by the podcast Firebug and will follow an arson investigator (Taron Egerton) and a detective (Jurnee Smollett) as they team up to investigate two serial arsonists in the Pacific Northwest.
And it’s your lucky day because we have the trailer right here!

Egerton has become an Apple TV+ darling after his stunning turn in another series, Black Bird, and that same creative team is behind Smoke.
Egerton will look to lead the way here in a drama that looks to be both visually stunning and emotionally gripping.
Our first look at the trailer puts a strong emphasis on what will ultimately be as much a character in this one as anything else: fire.
Fire rages in many of the scenes that play out in the explosive trailer, which sets fire alongside the characters as it introduces itself to audiences.

There’s a tautness that stretches through the various scenes we see, as well as numerous character interactions, particularly between Egerton’s arson investigator and Smollett’s detective.
Will these two be unwilling partners? Will they find common ground?
Or will this be a case of two figures working together but distrusting each other at every turn?
The trailer gives reason to believe all of those things could be true.

This series has all the ingredients to be another fantastic Apple TV+ product, and it’s coming at the perfect time.
Egerton and Smollett are both fantastic actors, and in the few minutes we saw of them in the trailer, the chemistry between the two is evident.
It’ll be worth the price of admission to see two actors of their caliber dig into this material.
And they are far from the only top names in this one.

The cast is rounded out by Rafe Spall, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Hannah Emily Anderson, Anna Chlumsky, Adina Porter, Greg Kinnear, and John Leguizamo.
Those are some heavy hitters, and the cast alone should get you excited to check this one out.
The summer months can be filled with fun, lighter fare, which is all well and good, but you start to miss those tantalizing series that punctuate much of the fall and winter programming.
From what little we can glean from the trailer, Smoke appears to have all the drama and great character work from some of Hollywood’s best as they bring this mystifying mystery to life.

Smoke looks like it won’t just entertain; it’ll haunt.
