Hotheaded businessman George and patient homemaker Louise Jefferson (Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford) and their teen son Lionel (Mike Evans, later replaced by Damon Evans) were a Black American success story: moving on up from working-class Queens to a luxury Manhattan high-rise in The Jeffersons. The series ran for 10 seasons on CBS and got much mileage from the humorous contrast between egotistical George’s temper tantrums and wife Weezy’s unflappable calm.
