John Doe vs. Sweet Tooth, With a Side of Thong

If the new clip from Peacock’s upcoming live-action comedy adaptation of Twisted Metal is any indication, this is going to be a very fun ride this summer.

In the sneak peek, John Doe (Anthony Mackie) encounters Sweet Tooth (Joe Seanoa a.k.a. Samoa Joe, with Will Arnett voicing the character), and things quickly take a violent turn. Sweet Tooth misses with his machete (“swung a little wide there”) but John Doe stands no chance trying to punch him (without hurting himself).

“Aren’t we a tall glass of water? Me, I’m more of a Hawaiian punch,” Sweet Tooth declares before punching him. “I’m guessing you don’t fight much outside of your car, now, do you?” But John Doe won’t go down without a fight, insisting, “look, clown, I don’t need four wheels to kick your ass.” Watch the clip above to see what happens after Sweet Tooth turns on some “kill music” (“Thong Song” by Sisqó) … and starts singing along.

Twisted Metal, with all 10 episodes dropping on July 27 on Peacock, is based on the classic PlayStation game series. It is an original take by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and written by showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith. It follows a motor-mouthed outsider who is offered a chance at a better life but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a badass axe-wielding car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.

In addition to Mackie, Arnett, and Seanoa, the series stars Stephanie Beatriz and Thomas Haden Church. Guest stars include Neve Campbell, Richard Cabral, Mike Mitchell, Tahj Vaughans, and Lou Beatty Jr.

Joining Smith, Reese, and Wernick as executive producers are Mackie, Arnett and Marc Forman (Electric Avenue), Jason Spire (Inspire Entertainment), Peter Principato (Artists First), Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions, and Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios.
