Zachery Ty Bryan found himself in trouble with the law again.
According to TMZ on Sunday, Eugene Police Department said the Home Improvement alum was arrested in Oregon on Friday for felony assault in violation of the Abuse Prevention Act. Police received a call about a physical dispute between a woman and a man at a residence in the city. When officers arrived at the scene, the former child star was not at the home. However, they eventually managed to track him down and take him to jail. Zachery currently remains in custody. There are no other details about the case at this time, including the name of the woman involved. But as you may know, this isn’t the first time the 41-year-old actor has been facing some legal trouble.

Back in May 2020, he was first arrested and charged with a DUI. Zachery pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years of probation. He also received 18 months of a multiple-offender alcohol program since he was previously booked for a DUI. And months later, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift star was taken into custody again – this time for a very serious crime. He was charged with felony strangulation, fourth-degree assault, coercion, menacing, harassment, and interference with making a police report following a dispute with Johnnie Faye Cartwright.
He had been dating the woman during his marriage to ex-wife Carly Matros. In an article published by The Hollywood Reporter last month, Johnnie claimed Zachery was abusive before the incident. One day in October, he woke her up to find out where his cell phone charger went but became violent. He allegedly “pulled her hair” and punched her in the face several times before he “grabbed Cartwright’s neck with both hands and choked her” for around 45 seconds. Awful.
For his part, Zachery told the outlet that the situation was “so blown out of proportion.” Seriously? He alleged that Johnnie would get mad about his “double life.” Although Zachery and Carly announced their split by then, he claimed she was upset on the night of the incident, and things escalated because they had “been drinking too much.” He added:
“We didn’t even really get that physical. We got really loud. We were screaming and because we were in a townhome that had [thin walls], everybody could hear. Johnnie was, at the time, just really upset about my situation. At the end of the day, [the police] throw a bunch of counts at you because they ultimately want you to plead to something. I could’ve fought it … but that’s more stress and drama. I got two misdemeanors and called it a day.”
Basically, the gist is he took no accountability for his actions. Following the incident, the serious charges were dropped. And instead, Zachery pleaded guilty to misdemeanor menacing and fourth-degree assault. He was sentenced to three years of probation and could not “buy, possess or consume alcoholic beverages” or go to a place that sells or serves alcohol as a principal purpose. He was also required to attend a violence intervention and have no contact with Johnnie.
However, the outlet reported that Zachery and Johnnie were still together at the time. In fact, they were engaged to be married and had children together when the exposé was published in June. It’s unknown if she was the woman involved in this domestic violence case.
