Doja Cat In Hot Water With Fans After Bashing Fandom

Doja Cat is in trouble with her fans right now. Why is that? Well, she decided to bash the nickname her fans have been affectionately calling themselves for years!

On Saturday, the 27-year-old singer took to Threads to make fun of her fans for saying they are the Kittenz. She wrote at the time:

“my fans don’t name themselves s**t. if you call yourself a ‘kitten’ or f***ing ‘kittenz’ that means you need to get off your phone and get a job and help your parents with the house.”

Ouch. That’s not the only message she had for everyone. When one person asked what they should “change” their fan account name to since she didn’t “like the term kitten” anymore, Doja told her to delete it:

“Just delete the entire account and rethink everything it’s never too late.”

Seriously? In response to another fan account that used her real name Amala Zandile Dlamini as their handle, she fired back:

“You making my government name ur sn is creepy as f**k.”

Of course, people started to fire back at Doja in the comments of the post – including one person who noted that people were “only using the name YOU gave your fans.” However, Doja said she made the name “when i was an alcoholic teen.” You can see some of her posts (below):

Look…

Artists have fandom names – it’s not an uncommon thing. Everyone from Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, and Justin Bieber has a nickname for their supporters. For years, Doja herself has referred to her fans as “Kittenz.” And if she wanted to change it, bashing her supporters – who helped give her a platform, champion her projects, and see her tours – wasn’t the way to do it! Many on Twitter even went on to voice how her treatment of fans rubbed them the wrong way, writing:

“doja cat of all ppl telling anybody else to get off their phone”

“your name is doja CAT but kittens is where you draw the line?”

“i have never seen a celebrity drag and treat their fans like complete s**t as much as doja cat has, it’s actually crazy”

“elon musk and doja cat competing for who can ruin their brand and drive away consumers the most”

“imagine telling your fans to get a job when they are the ones that buy your music, merch, and concert tickets”

‘get a job’ you wouldnt have one without us.”

“Why would you direct such hateful energy towards the people who literally support you? it’s such weird behaviour”

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a celebrity more determined to get their fans to hate themselves than Doja Cat. Like s***ting on the ppl who support you and ur work is not quirky girl”

“The way she fully embraced the fandom name and even used it regularly but because those same fans are calling her out now she wants to pretend that she always hated it…weird”

This is not a good look for Doja! What are your thoughts, Perezcious readers? Are you still a fan of Doja after this situation?
