Why Chris Hemsworth Is Taking A Break From Acting
Chris Hemsworth clarified his comments about “taking some time off” from work.
Last year, the Thor actor told Vanity Fair that he intended to step back from acting after discovering he had a genetic predisposition to Alzheimer’s disease. He had been filming an episode of National Geographic’s Limitless when he learned through testing and bloodwork that he was “8 to 10 times more likely” to develop the disease.
“It really triggered something in me to want to take some time off,” Chris shared at the time.
After the interview went viral, Chris spoke out to clarify more of the reasoning behind his decision.
“It all got a little sort of blown out of proportion,” he told Entertainment Tonight of his comments. “I wanted to take off because I’ve been working for 10 years, and I’ve got three kids that I want to spend more time with.”
“Doing that show, each episode resonated in such a way that made me realize how life is just flying by, and I wanted to be still for long periods and more often,” he continued.
Chris also said, “The information about the predisposition… allowed me to make all the changes — whether it be nutrition, my training, my mental fitness. Which is the point of the series. The whole point for me was to give people access to tools, knowledge, information on how to live a better, longer, healthier life.”
While Chris said he feels “healthier” than ever, he also said as he’s getting older, he’s decided to be more “curated” about the work he chooses. “I’ve been running from project to project for a long time, just to avoid being unemployed or that fear that it’s the last job you’ll get, you know?” he said. “I wanna be more curated about the choices I make, things I immerse myself in or I’m involved in. I want to have greater value and work with great people.”
