Serpentwithfeet Announces New Theatrical Production Heart of Brick

Serpentwithfeet has announced a new theatrical production titled Heart of Brick, which is centered around Black queer nightlife. After a premiere in Hamburg, Germany, the show makes its debut in United States with a weeklong run in New York, and will continue on tour through November 1. Heart of Brick is connected to an as yet unannounced new album. See all of the dates below.

Serpentwithfeet’s Josiah Wise co-wrote Heart of Brick with poet Donte Collins. Wu Tsang is the project’s director, with choreography by Raja Feather Kelly. “The dance floor has been a medium for Black queer people to decompress and build community. Going out has given me incentive to go inward and I am a better person because of it,” Wise said in a statement about Heart of Brick. “Engaging the body is essential to engaging the spirit. I have Proof.”

Wise last issued an album in 2021 with Deacon, which he followed with the Deacon’s Grove EP later that year. Between records, he’s appeared on new material with Moby, Nosaj Thing, and Mick Jenkins.
