Nakhane has announced a new EP: Leading Lines is due out December 16 via BMG. The four-song release is set to include “My Ma Was Good,” a new single from the South African artist that arrives alongside the announcement. Check it out below.
The new single, according to a press release, is part of a trilogy of songs inspired by the musician’s relationship with their mother. “Although she is no demure wallflower, she was still fucked over by a problematic masculinity,” Nakhane explained. “Here I was asking myself the question: ‘If my ma was good and she still got a raw deal, then why should I be good? Why should I behave? This was at a point in my life when I was toying with the villain in me.”
In addition to “My Ma Was Good,” the new EP will feature Nakhane’s recent singles “Tell Me Your Politik” (featuring Moonchild Sanelly and Nile Rodgers) and “Do You Well” (featuring Perfume Genius).
