Jurassic Park returning to theaters in 3D

Any scene from Jurassic Park with raptors or the T. rex is just as terrifying today as it was 30 years ago. Later this month, moviegoers will have the opportunity to experience the terror in 3D when the film gets re-released in RealD 3D-equipped theaters across North America beginning August 25th.

Tickets are now on sale for the 3D-only release here. Jurassic Park was converted to 3D in 2013 for its 20th anniversary, literally adding a new dimension to the groundbreaking animatronic and CGI dinosaurs. The original Jurassic Park movie was directed by Steven Spielberg and based on Michael Crichton’s 1990 novel of the same name. It stars Sam Neill and Laura Dern as paleontologists Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler, who take a tour of the island theme park created with cloned dinosaurs from prehistoric DNA alongside mathematician Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum). Though its billionaire founder John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) assures them of the park’s safety, nature predictably runs its course and the dinosaurs take control.

Five Jurassic Park sequels have been made to mixed results since the original was released. However, even Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Dominion director Colin Trevorrow has admitted there “should have only been one Jurassic Park“ movie made.

The most recent entry, 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, saw the return of many of the original characters. See where it landed on our list of Jurassic Park movies ranked from best to worst.

Earlier this year LEGO celebrated the 30th anniversary of the original Jurassic Park with five new sets featuring memorable scenes from the movie.
