It Ends With Us’ Real Budget Is Staggeringly More Than Initial Reports

Due to the ongoing lawsuit involving Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively, more information about It Ends With Us‘ budget has come to light, revealing the film cost much more than previously thought.

What was It Ends With Us’ real budget?

According to new court documents found in a report by Variety, It Ends With Us did not cost the $25 million it was widely reported to. Instead, the film’s budget actually ballooned to more than twice that, and was “closer to $55 million” after accounting for things like reshoots and delays brought on by both COVID and the Hollywood guild strikes in 2023.

Despite the larger-than-thought budget, It Ends With Us was still a massive hit. The film grossed more than $350 million at the box office, and seemed prime for a follow-up. Unfortunately, the relationship between Baldoni — who owns the rights to the sequel thanks to his deal with author Colleen Hoover — and star Lively have all but assured no such movie will ever happen.

“The film tells the compelling story of Lily Bloom, a woman who overcomes a traumatic childhood to embark on a new life in Boston and chase a lifelong dream of opening her own business,” reads the synopsis. “A chance meeting with charming neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid sparks an intense connection, but as the two fall deeply in love, Lily begins to see sides of Ryle that remind her of her parents’ relationship. When Lily’s first love, Atlas Corrigan, suddenly reenters her life, her relationship with Ryle is upended, and Lily realizes she must learn to rely on her own strength to make an impossible choice for her future.”

It Ends With Us is directed by Justin Baldoni from a screenplay written by Christy Hall. The film also stars Baldoni as Ryle, Brandon Sklenar as Atlas, Jenny Slate as Alyssa, Hasan Minhaj as Marshall, and Amy Morton. It is executive produced by Baldoni, Lively, Hoover, Steve Sarowitz, Andrew Calof, and Andrea Ajemian, with Alex Saks, Jamey Heath, and Hall producing.
