Frasier Sequel Series Adds 2 Cast Members

The upcoming Frasier sequel series at Paramount+ has gained a couple of cast members, with Variety reporting that Jack Cutmore-Scott and Nicholas Lyndhurst have both been cast in the upcoming series.

While plot details for the upcoming series are being kept mostly secret, Variety did note that Cutmore-Scott will play the role of Freddy Crane, Frasier’s son, who the series describes as “a nuanced combination of his father and grandfather. Years ago, Freddy rejected following in his father’s footsteps—dropping out of college to become a fireman—and he’s never looked back until now, when recent troubles have left him with no one to turn to in his life. If they can overcome past differences, Freddy and Frasier might finally have a chance to repair old wounds.”

As for Lyndhurst, he’ll play Alan Cornwall, a man who is described as “Frasier’s old college buddy turned university professor. British, boozy, and larger than life, Alan has an intellect on par with Frasier’s—if only he ever felt like using it. Alan’s mischievous streak might be just what Frasier could use to shake up his routine, while Frasier’s thoughtful guidance might help Alan find some of the direction he’s been missing in his own life.”

The character of Cornwall has never appeared in the Frasier series, but Frasier’s son has. He was briefly played by Luke Tarsitano in the original series but then played by Trevor Einhorn for the rest of its run. With the character having to be a bit younger than their original actors, however, it seems it was time to turn to someone else.

Cutmore-Scott has appeared in a litany of high-profile films, including Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and the upcoming Oppenheimer, Kingsman: The Secret Service, as well as some roles in TV, including ABC’s Deception. Lyndhurst’s biggest credit comes from the hit British sitcom Only Fools and Horses, but he’s also starred in a number of films, most recently 2016’s A United Kingdom.

Frasier originally ran from 1993 to 2004, originating as a spin-off of the hit series Cheers focused around Kelsey Grammer’s character, Dr. Frasier Crane. The spin-off starred Kelsey Grammer, Jane Leeves, David Hyde Pierce, Peri Gilpin, John Mahoney, and Dan Butler. The show and its cast won 37 Primetime Emmy Awards.
