Dead Island 2 Delayed Again

Dead Island 2 made a big reappearance at the most recent Gamescom Opening Night Live and carved out a February 2023 release date. However, the oft-delayed RPG won’t be hitting that date and has been pushed to April 28, 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Embracer Group’s interim report that first broke the news left off the previously announced Xbox One version, suggesting that port has been canceled. Dambuster Studios has not outright confirmed its cancelation, however. Other games like Street Fighter 6 and the Resident Evil 4 remake are among the few games hitting current platforms and the PS4, but not the Xbox One.

Regardless, the game’s official Twitter account released a more substantial statement on the push. The team noted the irony of delaying the game yet again, but it said it wanted to take those extra 12 weeks and make something it was proud of.

But it won’t be long until players see more Dead Island 2. Dambuster Studios recently announced a Dead Island 2 showcase that will premiere on December 6.

Dead Island 2 has been a long time coming after being announced in 2014. Goat Simulator 3 even parodied it in a recent trailer. Techland, the team behind the first entry and its spin-off, originally tried to develop it before it shifted its focus to Dying Light. Yager, the developer behind Spec Ops: The Line, was supposed to develop the game before Sumo Digital took over, which was also taken off the project. Dambuster Games inherited the title after that and is behind this most recent iteration. An old Dead Island 2 build from around 2015 leaked online in 2020 and, given the timing, was likely from Yager’s time on the title.
