Blade Runner 2099 Episode 1 Nabs Game of Thrones Director

The first episode of the highly anticipated Blade Runner 2049 sequel series Blade Runner 2099 has found its director, with Variety reporting that Jeremy Podeswa has signed on to direct the pilot of the upcoming show.

The report notes that Podeswa will also serve as producing director and executive producer of the series in addition to directing the pilot. Podeswa has been involved in numerous high-profile shows, most notably directing six episodes of the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, as well as having directed episodes of series like True Detective, Boardwalk Empire, Six Feet Under, True Blood, Homeland, and many episodes in the American Horror Story franchise.

Amazon Studios officially gave a series order to the upcoming live-action Blade Runner TV series last year, with the series set to take place within the franchise’s film universe. Original director Ridley Scott is currently attached to the project as an executive producer and will reportedly direct some episodes himself.

Currently, plot details on Blade Runner 2099 are being kept under wraps, but it seems as if the sequel will take place at least 50 years after the sequel, which itself took place 30 years after the original Blade Runner.

Blade Runner 2049 was released in theaters in 2017 and was directed by Denis Villeneuve, with stars Harrison Ford and Edward James Olmos reprising their roles from the original. 2049 also starred Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, and Dave Bautista.
