LeBron James and his eldest son, Bronny James, are the target of a new lawsuit concerning a car crash that happened nearly two years ago in California.

In a suit filed in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 23, plaintiffs April Almanza Lopez and Kiara Rae McGillen claim that LeBron and Bronny crashed into them on the highway in Littlerock, California, in November 2022.

According to documents obtained by Us Weekly, McGillen was driving with Lopez as her passenger when the father-son duo hit their vehicle. The women allege that they sustained injuries in the accident that still require medical treatment. They also claim that the accident damaged their vehicle, requiring costly repairs and leaving it devalued.

The plaintiffs noted that they expect further expenses as well, noting that they will “employ in the future physicians, surgeons and others for examination, treatment and care.”

The lawsuit does not specify the amount of money the women are seeking, but they are asking for reimbursement for medical expenses, loss of earnings, property damage and the cost of the lawsuit. They are also seeking a trial by jury.

Bronny, 20, made his professional debut earlier this week after being drafted by his dad’s NBA team, the Los Angeles Lakers, in June. During the Lakers’ Tuesday, October 22, game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Bronny played for a total of three minutes. He took two shots but missed both and finished the game with one offensive rebound.

Tuesday’s game marked the first time a father-son duo have ever played together in the NBA. The pair shared about 90 seconds on the court during the second quarter. (The Lakers ultimately beat the Timberwolves 110-103.)

“That moment, us being at the scorer’s table together and checking in together, it’s a moment I’m never going to forget,” LeBron, 39, told reporters after the game. “No matter how old I get, no matter how my memory may fade as I get older or whatever, I will never forget that moment.”

Ahead of Bronny’s on-court debut, TNT cameras captured LeBron giving his son some advice. “Y’all ready? You see the intensity, right? Just play carefree, though,” the Olympic gold medalist said. “Don’t worry about mistakes. Just go out and play hard.”

LeBron shares Bronny as well as son Bryce, 17, and daughter Zhuri, 10, with wife Savannah James, whom he wed in 2013.
