Beef took awards season by storm following its freshman outing on Netflix. After months of speculation that it would continue as an anthology series, Season 2 is officially a go at Netflix and previously rumored stars have now been confirmed.

As we look forward to more potential reveals and news, we’re breaking down everything we know so far about Beef Season 2, below.

Inside Llewyn Davis stars Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan, along with May December‘s Charles Melton and Priscilla‘s Cailee Spaeny, will star in Beef Season 2, Netflix announced on Tuesday, October 22. And a day later on October 23rd, it was revealed that Minari and Pachinko Oscar-winning star Youn Yuh-jung would also join the ensemble.

Deadline teased in February 2024 that Melton and Spaeny were being considered to play one of the couples at the center of the new chapter. Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, who previously starred together in Brokeback Mountain and Love & Other Drugs, were also rumored to play the other couple. Isaac and Mulligan’s castings were teased in June.

What will Beef Season 2 be about?

Here’s the official description for the new season: “A young couple witnesses an alarming fight between their boss and his wife, triggering chess moves of favors and coercion in the elitist world of a country club and its Korean billionaire owner.”

Melton and Spaeny are the younger couple, with Isaac and Mulligan as the boss and his wife. Season 1 stars Ali Wong and Steven Yeun will serve as executive producers, but it’s not clear at this time if the actors — who each won Emmys for their performances in Season 1 — will be seen in Season 2. Since it’s an anthology series, their onscreen returns are unlikely, but not impossible. Creator, showrunner, and executive producer Lee Sung Jin returns in his previous roles, and Jake Schreier also executive produces, the series, which is a Netflix and A24 production.

When does Beef Season 2 premiere?

A premiere date has not yet been announced, but Netflix shared on October 22 that Season 2 will be eight, 30-minute episodes. Netflix is still billing it as a limited series. Additional Season 2 details and information will be shared at a later time.

Season 1 focused on the feud between Wong’s Amy and Yeun’s Danny, two individuals who become entwined after a road rage incident. Season 2 is going to shift focus from Amy and Danny to two feuding couples.

When asked about the show’s future at the Emmys, Jin said, “It could stay limited — it was a very close-ended story for sure.” With that in mind, “If Netflix wanted to continue, it could also be anthology. It could be many things. It’s up to the great algorithm. We’re all waiting to hear.”

When does Beef Season 2 start filming?

Scripts for a second season have already reportedly been completed for submission at Netflix and A24 with a potential production start planned for the fall of this year. Again, without official confirmation, this is merely rumored, per Deadline. But it would ring true to Jin’s practices as he told TV Insider around the Season 1 premiere, “My pitches tend to be really involved… I try to leave as little to the imagination as possible.” In other words, if Jin had Season 1’s plot in place before presenting, that suggests that Season 2’s delivery will be similar behind the scenes.
