The Surprising Reason Khloé Kardashian Waited MONTHS To Name Her

It took Khloé Kardashian quite a while to officially name her son — and now we know why!

Of course, the Good American founder and her ex-slash-baby daddy Tristan Thompson legally walked back their son’s placeholder name late last August after he was born to a surrogate in July of last year. But even after making those legal moves, it still took Khlo-money a LONG time to figure out which direction she wanted to go with True‘s little brother! Eight more months, according to Khloé herself, before she finally officially picked Tatum! Hmmm… This sure sounds familiar…

On Tuesday, the 39-year-old appeared on the SHE MD podcast hosted by Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi. Khloé is one of Dr. Aliabadi’s patients, so the duo had a great rapport during their conversation. And while chatting about the KUWTK alum’s life, they discussed Tatum’s unconventional naming push! For one, Khloé admitted she didn’t actually settle on a name for him for nearly eight months in total even after the legal maneuvering happened about two months after his birth:

“I actually didn’t legally name Tatum, I think for maybe eight months. I would try different names at first, but none of them I liked.”

Inneresting! And the reason for the delay? Surrogacy. No, seriously! Tatum was welcomed via surrogate, and the fact that Khloé didn’t physically carry him on her own has the reality TV veteran believing it left a rift when it came to naming him. She explained that they had a beautiful nickname for him — Papa — but no given name for quite a while:

“We would always call him baby or I call him Papa all the time. So, Papa was a lot that I would use, but that was tough for me naming him. It’s interesting because I wasn’t carrying him, I didn’t really feel anything.”

Wow!

Eventually, of course, she landed on Tatum. The name fits Khloé’s naming strategy, obviously — it’s a nice pairing with True’s similarly alliterative name. Plus, Tatum’s “Papa” nickname is a wonderful call-back to Khloé’s late father. So that’s sweet! Also, the Revenge Body alum was insistent on not getting TOO weird with his name. She explained to Dr. Aliabadi:

“I like unique names, but not off-the-wall names. I think our family has enough off-the-wall names. I didn’t want to have just too much craziness.”

Ha! Well, there are definitely a few unique names in the KarJenner realm including North West and her siblings Saint, Psalm, and Chicago. Plus, there are Stormi and Aire Webster. And who could forget about Dream Kardashian?! Khloé ain’t wrong there!

The Kardashians star also revealed some of her internal consternation over how long it took for her bond with Tatum to settle in. After True’s birth via surrogate, the reality TV vet felt a connection within days. But with Tatum, it took months — and she’s still not even all the way there! Khloé admitted:

“With True, I could feel things about her or when I would pray at night, I would pray and we would have our conversations, and I don’t know, I just felt True’s spirit. It’s weird and kooky. Compare it to True and him, it’s a different experience. The connection … took days with True. With him, it’s taking months and we still don’t have a complete bond.”

Damn!!

No wonder it took so long to name him. There’s been such a disconnect! Khloé isn’t taking it too hard, though. At least not anymore! After months of questioning “why isn’t it the same,” as she explained on the podcast, momma has eventually come to find peace with her and Tatum’s journey. She concluded:

“I am obsessed with Tatum now, of course. Anyone going through surrogacy, don’t compare yourself to somebody else’s journey. I think it is such an incredible blessing that we have this option and I’m so grateful for the women out there who are giving up their bodies to carry someone else’s baby to then give it back to their mother. It’s such a beautiful thing. But give yourself grace. Give yourself patience.”

Amen to that! And now we know why it took her so long to settle on Tatum’s name after his birth. These things are complicated! Isn’t that right, Kylie Jenner??
