Terrence Malick Wrote a Screenplay He Wants Spring Breakers’ Harmony

Spring Breakers director Harmony Korine says Terrence Malick wrote a screenplay he wants him to direct.

Korine’s last credited work as a sole feature-film director was 2019’s The Beach Bum starring Matthew McConaughey. Korine told GQ he’s now at a point in his career where he’s lost interest in making “normal films,” explaining, “The way it used to be was that movies would come out, films would come out, games would come out, music would come out, and everyone knew about it. Now, not only do you not know what’s out there, you don’t even know the channels that exist that it’s out there on.”

When asked if there was ever a chance he’d make a “real movie” again, Korine revealed Malick had already written a screenplay that the Thin Red Line director wants him to helm.

“It’s a really, really beautiful script,” Korine said. “And that’s maybe one of the only things that I could imagine pulling me back into like actual, traditional moviemaking. But even then, the hard part now is just the idea of looking through a viewfinder and filming, like, people speaking at a table. All this dialogue always gets in the way. All these things that you don’t really care about. I don’t know. That would be a special case. I always loved him, and his movies were such a big deal for me as a kid, and even still now. But that would maybe be the one thing.”

Terrence Malick is currently editing his next movie

Malick, who is also known for 1978’s Days of Heaven and 2011’s The Tree of Life, is currently working on a biblical drama titled The Way of the Wind. The movie was filmed in 2019 and is still in the editing process, but is currently eyeing a 2024 release.

The Way of the Wind stars Géza Röhrig as Jesus Christ, Mark Rylance as Satan, Matthias Schoenaerts as Saint Peter, and others.
