Taylor Swift Ticket Sales Cause Problems for Ticketmaster France

Taylor Swift has six Eras Tour dates in France slated for next spring, and when those dates went on sale today (July 11), Ticketmaster was, once again, overwhelmed with demand, The New York Times reports. As a result, the ticketing platform “paused” sales shortly after they began, with Ticketmaster claiming that the problem was an “issue with a third-party vendor who is working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.” Ticketmaster has said that the public sale will begin again at a later date, which has not yet been announced.

The Ticketmaster collapse in France closely mirrors the difficulties American fans had purchasing Eras Tour tickets back in November, involving long wait times and crashed web pages. Two days after Eras Tour sales began through Ticketmaster’s “Verified Fan” program, Ticketmaster canceled the public on-sale outright. The fiasco prompted multiple lawsuits from Swift fans, who claim that Ticketmaster and its parent company, Live Nation Entertainment, engaged in fraud and anti-trust behavior. At a hearing convened by the United States Senate Judiciary Committee in January to address the matter, Live Nation Entertainment president Joe Berchtold blamed bots for overwhelming the site beyond its capacity.

Since beginning the United States leg of her Eras Tour in March, Swift has added dates in Europe, Australia, Brazil, Singapore, Japan, Mexico, and Argentina. She has not yet scheduled any dates for Canada, which has elicited a lyric-quoting direct appeal from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
