Why Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez May Have a New

The stars—or, more accurately, schedules—are aligning for longtime friends Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift to have a New York City reunion next week. Jimmy Fallon announced that both Gomez and Swift will be guests on The Tonight Show. Swift will appear on Monday, Oct. 24 to promote her new album Midnights, out next Friday. Gomez will be on the show Wednesday, Oct. 26, likely promoting her upcoming Apple TV+ documentary, My Mind and Me, out Nov. 4.

While the two unfortunately won’t be guests on the same night, there are plenty of opportunities for them to spend time together in NYC as they do press there. And there’s no telling what will happen on the show, either (maybe Swift will pre-record a message for Gomez, or vice versa).

Swift notably gave Gomez a shout-out the last time she was on The Tonight Show in November 2021.

While playing the show’s Box of Lies game, Swift deliberately brought Gomez into the narrative by pretending a box she opened contained a Wizards of Waverly Place DVD. “You should’ve known I was lying because I will do anything to bring up Selena Gomez,” she told Fallon later. “Anything!”

Swift and Gomez have been friends since 2008. Gomez last shared a glimpse of their friendship in July, during her 30th birthday celebration, captioning the pic “30, nerdy and worthy,” and posing alongside Swift.

Gomez told WSJ magazine in January 2020 that much of her friendship with Swift is private on purpose. “There’s so much of my friendship with Taylor that people don’t know about because we don’t necessarily feel the need to post about everything we do,” she explained. “She has showed up for me in ways that I would have never expected. Flown in because I was hurt and was going through something. Stuff that was going on with my family. It’s been proven year after year and in every moment of my life that she is one of my best friends in the world. We don’t agree on everything, but we respect each other with everything.”
